HE FELT SORRY FOR THEM
Week 14 in Ordinary Time. Matthew 9.27-33
The most touching statement in this passage is that Jesus felt sorry for the people. He was very sensitive to the need of the world around Him. He was able to observe that the people were harassed and confused like sheep without shepherd. Despite the insult He received from the ungrateful and jealous Pharisees, He was more concerned and moved by sympathy. He controlled His emotions.
He was not carried away by the praises lavished upon Him by the people, He was moved to sympathy, He prayed for labourers, sensitive and sympathetic labourers like Him. The world is more than harassed today, the harvest is so rich, people are more than confused and dejected. People are harassed by poverty, sickness, demons, evil forces, ignorance, wickedness, crimes, injustice, etc.
We need Jesus, we need sympathetic and sensitive labourers, every Christian should be an answer to the prayer of Jesus for labourers from above.
May we be filled with the power and heart of Jesus, May God save us from spiritual, economic, social and political harassment and dejection through Christ our Lord
Amen
