The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Apocalypse 11-12, 1Corinthians 15.20-26 Luke 1.39-56
AWAY WITH EVERY SOVEREIGNTY
We are celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Some people have problems with celebrating the Mother of Jesus thinking it is all about Her. What we are celebrating today is about the power of God manifested through Jesus Christ.
St. Paul stated in the 2nd reading that Jesus will do away with every sovereignty, authority and power, the last of them is death. Jesus’ victory will not be complete until those for whom He died have experienced the fruits of His sacrifice and redemption.
We can see this also at the end of the 1st reading, after the war in heaven, it was said, ‘Victory and power and empire have now been won by our God, and all authority for His Christ, for the accuser has been brought down’.
Mary understood this very well, that was why after she was praised by Elizabeth under the influence of the Holy Spirit, she erupted in song of praise to God, ‘my soul magnifies the Lord…’
Celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrating the victory of the Cross, death has been swallowed up in victory. Mary’s Assumption is a great sign that we are part of the kingdom which Jesus hands over to the Father, a sign that our greatest enemy has been put under our feet.
Those who really believe it will have no problem with celebrating and singing with Mary today, indeed, the Almighty has done great things for us, He has put down the princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
May this song be your life and testimony, May you have reasons to magnify the Lord through Christ our Lord Amen
