Feast of the Baptism of Jesus
St. Peter’s Parish – Gouyave, celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus (Sunday Jan 12) with the addition of four new members to their flock. On that day the ministries were carried out by the children of the parish and the readings were proclaimed by two parents of the newly baptised babies.
Stressing on the significance of the sacrament, the Parish Priest Fr. John says “There is a big transformation taking place at baptism. Baptism changes us from old selves to new creatures in Christ. It gives us new identity as Christians and that is who we are”. He further said, “we should be grateful to the Church for thinking about the future of our children while they are still infants”. Infant baptism becomes the best option only when parents and god parents are aware of their roles and put them into practice. At infants’ baptism the future of the child is entrusted to our care.
God-parents, having received the candles which were lit from the Paschal candle signifying the resurrected Jesus, were encouraged to ensure that they brought up the children knowing and learning the faith since they are expected to live as a Christian family.
